Aso-oke weaving · Iseyin partner workshop · 2026
Made by hand.
In Abuja and beyond.
Risemax is designed and tailored in our Abuja atelier. The craft happens in partner workshops across Nigeria, Iseyin for aso-oke weaving, Oyo for indigo dyeing, Akwete for handloom cotton. Every piece is hand-finished. Every garment is accountable.

Lasting clothes.
Risemax exists in a world where most clothing is fast, fast designed, fast manufactured, fast disposed of. We chose the slower path. Designs developed over months. Garments produced in small runs. Craft that takes time, by people who've spent decades learning it.
Our designs reference modernist silhouette principles, proportion, restraint, ease of wear, longevity. Our techniques reference traditional Nigerian craft, aso-oke, indigo, akwete, embroidery. We don't believe these principles are in tension. The best clothing combines both.
Risemax pieces are designed to be worn for years. Made well enough to last. Designed simply enough to remain relevant. Tailored by people who care.

Our atelier · Maitama, Abuja · 2026
"Risemax was founded in 2021 by Adesuwa Aigbe, a Nigerian designer who'd spent ten years working at European fashion houses before returning to Abuja with a clear question: what would African fashion look like if designed with the rigor of European haute couture, but rooted in Nigerian craft traditions?"
The first answer was a 12-look collection produced almost entirely by hand, aso-oke from Iseyin, indigo from Oyo, embroidery from artisans in Ondo. Sold from our small Abuja showroom and one London retailer. The collection sold out in three weeks.
Five years later, Risemax operates from a larger Abuja atelier, partners with seven Nigerian craft workshops, retails through international stockists in London, Paris, and Cape Town, and has built a community of customers who care about how clothes are made as much as how they look.
We're independently owned, founder-led, and committed to slow growth. We design to be patient. We produce in small runs. We invest in the craftspeople whose work makes ours possible.
Adesuwa Aigbe.
Adesuwa Aigbe trained at Central Saint Martins (BA Fashion, 2009) and the Royal College of Art (MA Womenswear, 2011). She spent six years at Céline under Phoebe Philo, two years at Lemaire, and one season as guest designer at Hermès before returning to Nigeria in 2020 to found Risemax.
Her work draws from her Nigerian heritage and her European training. The aesthetic combines modernist silhouette principles with Nigerian craft techniques. The brand's positioning combines international luxury standards with deeply local production.
Adesuwa lives in Abuja with her family and continues to lead design and creative direction at Risemax.

The hands that make Risemax.
Risemax pieces are produced by craftspeople in seven workshops across Nigeria. We've built relationships with each over years. We pay above-market rates because the work is exceptional.
Mama Adunni · Weaving aso-oke · Iseyin · 2026
Iseyin partner workshop
Mama Adunni leads our partner workshop in Iseyin, Oyo State. She and her seven weavers produce the aso-oke we use across collections, from the heavy-weight aso-oke of our coats to the finer aso-oke of our skirts and trousers. Mama Adunni has been weaving for 47 years.
Oyo natural dye partnership
Our indigo dyeing is done by a women's cooperative in Oyo State using fermented indigo leaves and traditional pots. The technique takes weeks per batch, fermentation, dipping, oxidation, multiple rounds. The depth of color is the result. Synthetic indigo cannot replicate it.

Made well. Made to last.
We're not perfect. Some materials we use travel international routes. Our supply chain isn't fully traceable. We use some imported synthetic fibers in linings. We're working on these.
What we do well: 70%+ of our materials are sourced in Nigeria. Our craftspeople are paid above local market rates. Our production runs are small and demand-led, not season-pushed. Our garments are designed for years of wear, not a season.
We publish an annual sustainability and labor practices report. The 2025 report is available on request.
Come see how Risemax is made.
We welcome visitors to our Abuja atelier by appointment. We'll walk you through the design process, show you garments in production, and discuss made-to-order options.
